BBBA Fundraising

This page will be dedicated to all BBBA Funraising events & committee.

The committee has set up a fund purely for sending our team of fighters -The Pirates! To compete in tournaments across the country or abroad, that they wouldn't be able to attend because of affordability.

We hope that the BBBA Fundraising will give our squad the opportunity to compete at world class events such as: The Irish Open,U.S. Open or the WPKA Worlds in Greece.

We are very fortunate to have people in our organisation who put themselves out regularly to aid others.

Please check regularly for updates and new dates and reports for forthcoming Fundraising ideas.

Fund Raising Events/Sponsor Money
Funds raised to date

Kidderminster Tournament
Upcoming Tournaments
BBBA Team Selection

Fund Raising Events/Sponsor Money:

Fund raising events past and present were discussed during the meeting, thesponsored walk was a huge success and to date we have collected in the region of £600.00, but we are still awaiting the remainder of the sponsor money to be handed in, please can everyone that participated collect all outstanding money and hand it in to Ally as soon as possible. Our aim is to collect all sponsorship funds no later than the 31st July.

We are also very pleased to advise that, thanks to Ally, Jeanette (Ally’s mum), Julian, Jan and other helpful supporters, we have currently raised approximately £800.00 from the bingo nights to date (excluding most recent on 12 & 15 July). Upcoming Bingo nights are as follows and, if you can’t attend, please can you donate any items possible including; tinned foods etc that can be collected for a hamper, new unwanted toys and cuddly toys, wine, chocolates etc for the raffles that are held during the evening – we cannot stress enough how helpful your donations and support are!

Forthcoming Bingo Fund Raising Events:

Confirmed forthcoming dates for Bingo fundraising events, doors open at 6.30pm & starts at 7.30pm, are as follows:

1. 12th July, Fraddon
2. 15th July, Indian Queens
3. 2nd August, Fraddon
4. 26th August, Indian Queens
5. 30th August, Fraddon

Forthcoming Horse Racing Evening Fund Raising Event:

The Horse Racing event has been booked, the deposit has been paid, and the date has been set for the 1st November 2008 at the St Dennis Working Mens Club, start time to be confirmed. If you, or anyone you know, would like to sponsor a horse then let us know. Last year the evening was a huge success and a great time was had by all – the main theme of the evening appeared to be who could give their horse the most crude name for the commentator to read out – poor guy was a little out of his depth!!

Funds Raised to Date:

It was confirmed that, to date, with the money from the bingo nights and the sponsored walk, the total raised so far is approximately £1400.00, but we are awaiting the remainder of the sponsored walk money to be handed in which, we are hoping, will bring that total closer to £1700.00, which is a fantastic achievement.

The committee would like to acknowledge and say a huge thank you to those who have given their time in helping to organise and participate in the events to date and these include:

Kyle Prophet, thank you for your help in organising fighters/supporters and collecting the funds for the transport and supporting/coaching our fighters in the recent tournament at Kidderminster, your help is invaluable!

Stewart, thank you to Stewart for driving the fighters and supporters up to Kidderminster and back, it was a long day and we are all very grateful for your support, lets hope we weren’t too lairy and haven’t put you off taking us next time!!

Kathryn Webster (Crantock Bakeries) thank you to Kathryn for donating the delicious pasties during our sponsored walk at the Camel Trail, everyone enjoyed them and they went down a treat after a long, and for some painful!, walk. A letter has also been sent to Kathryn, along with a thank you card and photos of the walkers, expressing our thanks.

Kidderminster Tournament:

Congratulations to everyone who fought at Kidderminster and thank you to the supporters, overall a good day was had by all. Everyone was very proud of the way in which the BBBA team behaved and fought during the day and it was a great opportunity to check out the competition!! BBBA fighters are definitely some of the best!

We will be looking at travelling to future national tournaments and if you would like to join us next time please let us know, it’s definitely worth the trip and is a great experience. For those of you who travelled to Kidderminster, we are looking into organising a coach for our next trip, as opposed to the small bus, but obviously this will be reflected in the cost. The coach seats in the region of 40 passengers, if we can get a full bus then the cost will be in the region of £35.00 per family, if less people travel then, of course, the price increases.

Upcoming Tournaments:

August is a busy month for tournaments organised by Ed, the Samurai Open takes place on Sunday, 10th August at Indian Queens Working Mens Club, doors open at 12.00pm and The Celtic Kumite takes place on Saturday, 23rd August at Kingsley Village, Fraddon and doors open at 4.00pm, please come along and show your support.

 Fund Raising Events/Sponsor Money

The committee are pleased to advise that the funds raised from the latest bingo evening are £305.00, which brings our total funds raised to date to over a £1000.00. Thank you to everyone who has supported these events but we do still require more members to come along to the Bingo nights – they’re great fun and you’ll be contributing to our very worthwhile cause! Please remember we are raising money to give the team members the opportunity to travel further a field and test their skills against the best in Tournaments held overseas. Ed will be distributing a letter to each team member advising of their place in the team and to benefit from the money raised we do require your help and support.

Our next event will be held at Morrisons in Newquay on the 11th August, where we will be bag packing between the hours of 10-4pm. This is the first of two that have been booked, the next will be on the 1st September, if you are unable to attend on the 11th please try your best to come along in September. We request as many adults and their children to join in as possible, dressed in their uniforms and whatever time you can offer during the day will be greatly appreciated. Ally Gregory will be taking the names of all who can come to the first one at the tournament on Sunday 10th (at Indian Queens), we have 2 hour time slots starting from 10am.

The Horse racing event is confirmed for the 1st November, posters have been created and will be in circulation in all training centres very shortly. Please come along, it was a great laugh last year and don’t forget to sponsor a horse for an even greater chance of raking in the winnings!

 Transport to Tournaments

We are pleased to advise that for all future tournaments we will be travelling in the next grade of coach, which has headrests and a boot!! So no uncomfortable snoozing on the return journey! There is a slight increase in cost compared to last time, to be expected, but well worth it and only minimal.

 Upcoming Tournaments

As we know the reason for the fundraising committee is to raise money to help towards the travel and accommodation costs involved in sending the team members to the big tournaments, such as the Irish Open and even the Worlds in Greece, both being held in 2009. In respect of the accommodation, we are currently looking into Hostels, if anyone knows of any (location to be confirmed but we believe near Dublin) or has any other ideas for cheap accommodation please let us know. Although the Irish Open isn’t until March 2009, we anticipate that everyone will be booking already and spaces will be limited.

 Summer Party

There is a rumour that there may be a summer party (I use summer in the loosest form!!) I’m sure most members would be up for a raucous get together, Ed please can you advise if this is a possibility?

 Next Meeting

The next committee meeting has been scheduled for the 8th September at 6.30pm (Fraddon), please attend if you can and show your support and contribute your great ideas into further ways of raising funds for this very worthwhile cause – your child could be a future World champion !!!

The Team 2008

The Team, will be persons who show dedication and commitment, they will be members of the Black Belt Club,Master's Club or regulars at the BBBA Tournaments.
Master Ed will select a new team every year, giving everybody the chance to compete nationally or internationally.
The Team must prove themselves in class and on the mats. They should take a more responsibile role in class, set an example to the rest of the students, where possible the team and family members should try and help out at fundraising events.

I have not picked favourites,I have NO favourites, the team is picked on their individual attitudes and accomplishments.Of course people who are not picked this time can still make their way to national comps i.e English Trials,Wako's etc.

The team will consist of two people from each catergory and where possible one or two reserves!

N.B being selected, doesn't mean you qualify to fight for your Country some organisations e.g Wako's or WPKA can only take two or three people from the U.K,you may have to qualify to get into the Pirates and then may have to go through another selection to fight for England.
