The Superhuman strand continues its fascinating insight into some of the world’s most extraordinary people.

Superhuman: Super Strong meets some of the strongest people on the planet and reveals the extreme lengths they will go to in order to possess their amazing raw power.

The documentary features the three-year-old girl whose parents have already got her lifting weights, the man who is so muscular his thigh is almost as big as his waist and the man who can smash his hand through nine layers of solid concrete.

The film examines the relationship between the power of the mind and the power of the body and reveals how far human power is down to nature or nurture.

Welsh bodybuilder Flex Lewis tells the programme how he lives on a diet of fish five times a day and devotes his whole life to developing the most incredible bulging muscles. He has 80 per cent more muscle than the average British man, a quarter of the body fat and the circumference of his thigh is almost the same as his waist.
He says: “If you want to stand out you’ve got to make yourself look like a peacock. I don’t want to be a blackbird; I want to show my feathers off.”

The film also meets circus strongman Uri Akulova from the Ukraine who has trained his teenage daughter, Varya, to become a power-lifting record breaker and has already got her three-year-old sister, Barbi, lifting weights.
He says: “I started to train my children even before they were born - I was working with their mother. Their mother was training until the last day of pregnancy”.
His wife, Larisa, adds: “At the beginning it was a bit hard, but that passed, up until I was nine months pregnant I moved, ran, skipped and boxed with my husband.”

British black belt karate king Ed Byrne describes to the programme how he mentally transforms himself into an alter ego he calls ‘Thug’ before smashing his hand through nine layers of solid concrete.
Ed says: “Concrete deserves respect, especially when you want to break it with the human hand.”

The programme also features the world’s strongest couple, Brit Gemma Taylor and her Icelandic powerhouse husband Benedikt Magnusson, as they eagerly await the birth of their son and wonder if he will turn out to be an extraordinarily strong baby.
Gemma says: “Aged nine or ten, working with the horses, I was able to lift a bale of hay and throw it in the stable. That’s when knew I was different - everyone else had to use wheelbarrows.”

And the film meets Travis ‘The Beast’ Bagent, a champion arm wrestler from West Virginia, USA, who psyches out his opponents and attempts to beat them with mind games before he’s even touched their hands.
Travis says: “I’m known as the coolest guy in the world, by far the best arm wrestler that ever lived. People say I’m too cocky, I’m too confident. Well they’re right – I do think I’m superior.”
The film follows Travis as he travels to an arm wrestling championship in Manchester where he takes on Canadian champion Devon Larratt, who appears to have arms of steel.

Master Ed Byrne on his last test at the rag factory,Shoreditch,East London - Read below for a full account!

After a long and tedious train journey from St.Austell to Paddington and then another hour in the limo, we finally arrived at the studio, which was not as glamourous as you would think! I then had to sign even more release forms. I met up with the crew, assistant producer(who I already spoke to over the phone, after I agreed to do the documentary,I had to verify who I was and had to prove I held the records I said I'd held and prove I was the grade I was,the whole tedious process took nearly a month,Many thanks to Bob Sykes,Kevin Cross,Matthew Winsper and everyonr at the World record academy).

I met Paul Comfort who told me what we were going to try and achieve,Which was to see how much power I could generate breaking 9 concrete edging stones!(ITV originally wanted me to break 5,I said I could that with no effort what so ever,I stated I wouldn't have to focus, I could just break them!),(the director wanted to see me go through the focus process!).

I had told the Assistant producer that I was used to breaking 20 + slabs and 9 would be a good number to generate focus and power, also considering i'd just performed 2 demos and one whole day's seminar the week previous,my hand was feeling the effect ha!

Paul who is a Strength and Sports analist told me I needed to produce 110 kgs of power to break the whole stack and the energy must go through the whole stack! My first recording was 120 kg's power! I was not satisfied with that at all, I knew I was there to break at least 3 separate stacks,I knew I could do better and was determined to do so! In between my next stack I was asked numerous questions about my childhood, personality, I was then asked the same questions again and again and again. It was time to break my second stack,Paul Comfort told the director David Donelly that he would expect me to lose power! My next stack felt so good when I hit it ,my hands feeling like a knife going through butter,I knew I had injected more power and speed,I waited impatiently for the results to come back, the power plates were set at 160kg and the force I created went right off the scale so this time I had generated in excess of 160kg of power through my right hand only, even though I was pleased,I still thought something was missing and didn't feel right.

Whilst I waited for my next stack to be set up for me,you guessed it more questions, I was then asked to walk around the studio, like a predator stalking his prey(my prey was the slabs) and look at them as if I hated them, whilst they filmed me,I was also asked to look as mean as possible whilst I was filmed,I felt very uncomfortable to begin with,I soon relaxed and got into the swing of things, when I remembered these guys were only doing their job.

The next and last stack was ready,I was prepared,I had summoned the Thug,we were both ready,I could feel blood and adrenaline pumping through every inch of my body,my breathing was faster but at the same I was feeling really, really good, apon hitting the stack I didn't feel a thing except a huge release of pressure,as soon as I made contact I knew it was good, very good,I even said that feels good when my hand hit the concrete, but how good was it? I knew by the look on Paul's face(the look of sheer disbelief)it was extraordinnary! This time the power plates were set at 200kg, the power I created went right off the scale again and actually broke the scientifc equipment,we couldn't do another break even if I wanted to! it was calculated that The power in my right arm alone exceeded 200kg,it took me 0.2 seconds to break the entire stack and my hand had travelled 56 miles per hour in that 0.2 secs.I was told it was equivalent to a normal person lifting a 40 stone man above their head with one arm and I had enough power to break in excess of 38 concrete edging stones in one stack, I also learn't other things that I'm not going to share with you,as I intend to break some more records this year.

I was asked how I felt after the last stack, I was on cloud 9 I felt so good, that I would have gone for the guinness world record of 31 there and then if we had enough spacers! I was then asked if could catch the later train home as they wanted to film me walking around East London, they took me too, what can only be described as waste land they wanted me to walk through, looking as tough as possible,I was so glad my Wife,Michelle came to support me, she was even asked questions as well, she got talking to a young woman when I was doing my walking around the wasteland for an hour, only to find out she was a latvian prostitute waiting for her client haha! eventually the filming was overthe filming took 6 hours and I had 12 hours of travelling and the train broke down at Totnes on the way home- bad times.

However I would like to thank ITV for giving me the chance and I appreciate it very much! I'm just waiting for someone to phone me so I can play a baddie in a film or one of the soaps haha.
